Calgary home cooks and bakers
Sell the food you already make.
Neighbours send you order requests on ShobShob, and you choose which ones to accept. Customers pay you through Stripe, straight into your own Stripe account. You set the menu, the prices, and the days you cook.
- Free to apply. The standard ShobShob commission is 15% of food sales, plus GST on the commission where it applies. Delivery fees you set and tips are 100% yours. Stripe's card fees are separate.
- Many low-risk home foods don't need an AHS Food Handling Permit, but AHS confirms that for you, not us. In Calgary, expect a City business licence (about CAD $172 for a new one) and City location approval. We link to the official pages. The City and AHS decide your path. We don't.
- Customer ordering isn't open yet. You can apply now, before your licence or Stripe account is set up. Before customers can order from you, we'll ask for your City business licence number and, for some foods, your AHS permit. Some City and AHS steps take weeks, so start early. Apply now to be one of the first kitchens.
Fee from the City's 2026 fee schedule. Sources reviewed 2026-08-02. Confirm the amount and your path with the City and AHS before you pay or sell.
Launch offer
0% ShobShob commission until you've had 10 paid orders and 90 days have passed since customer ordering opens. After that, the standard 15%. Stripe's card fees still apply. The offer is for kitchens accepted onto ShobShob before customer ordering opens. It is in section 7 of the Seller Agreement.
Who can apply
You can apply if you're 18 or older, live in Alberta, and cook in a home kitchen or a licensed commercial or shared kitchen in the City of Calgary. The person who cooks applies in their own name — family can help fill it in. Applying on its own doesn't make you eligible to sell food: the City of Calgary and Alberta Health Services (AHS) decide what your kitchen needs.
What you can sell here
Alberta's low-risk home food rules decide what you can make at home without an AHS permit. Every food has to meet all of the rules. These lists are examples, not a promise that your recipe qualifies.
Often fits the low-risk rules
- Bread, buns and bagels
- Cookies, brownies, muffins and cakes without cream, custard or cheesecake fillings
- Fruit pies
- Candy, granola, dried fruit, honey and nut butters
Needs extra checks
A cookie is not the same as a cream-filled cookie. Jams, pickles, salsas, ferments and canned foods can need proof of acidity or water activity.
Needs an AHS permit first
Meals, soups, curries, rice, meat, cheesecake, custard, cream fillings, and anything that must be kept cold or hot. You need an AHS Food Handling Permit before you list these, and we'll ask you for it. AHS may also ask for changes to your kitchen.
Not sure? Ask AHS before you sell.
